Writing Prompt Wednesday - Different Kinds of Smoke

People often have messy relationships with cigarettes. While many of us have never smoked tobacco, most of us (at least in the U.S.) know at least one person who does. That means that the smell of stale cigarettes or the ritual of a smoke break often means something to us - and our relationships.

Write about your characters' relationship with cigarettes, weed, or anything else that people smoke in their world. Do they smoke anything? How often? Who else in their life smokes? Are they trying to quit?

What memories of smoke breaks, cigarette runs, and the smell of stale smoke still linger in their minds? Did they have a collegiate love affair with getting baked, or do they avoid weed because of negative stereotypes?

Make sure to consider cultural aspects of your story - your characters' views and experiences may be radically different from each other, but they all come from somewhere! Maybe their family has certain beliefs about things, or maybe the stigma of smoking-related diseases is especially strong in your characters' region.
