Writing Prompt Wednesday - City Sounds

I took a long walk around downtown Chicago this morning, and since I hadn't been downtown in a long time, I was surprised by the unfamiliarity of it all - the cry of train wheels on battered tracks, the sudden splashes of cars through puddles, and that one asshole who wouldn't quit honking. The rain seemed to dampen the chatter from the people on the street. At one point, the monotonous thumping of raindrops joined with the noise of traffic to drown out the voice of someone a few feet away from me.

Write about the sounds you hear in a big city. If you're not from a big city, write about what you think it sounds like, or write your own fantasy/scifi/historical city noises!
